We maintain and revitalise your existing willow.

We maintain and revitalise your existing willow. We pride ourselves on being able to bring your old structures back to life.

Willow structures require a professional prune every 6-12 months to keep them looking in tip-top condition, I recommend every 6 months as this gets the best weaving results for that beautiful lattice finish.

Bespoke willow projects

As well as domes, tunnels and fencing, willow is only limited by our imagination. I have also created football goals that actually work, tea pots and bicycle structures.

My next big project is a Willow Maze and a outdoor theater/ learning space/ wedding venue, with the ability to put on performances, lessons or matrimonial ceremonies. With lights, PA sound capabilities, stage and an area to hold a large audience! If this sounds like the kind of living art you would like in your school/estate or wedding venue, then please get in touch for a more detailed quote!

Living Willow Services FAQs

Q: Our willow structure has been left for 5 years without any maintenance. What can we do about it? Can it be saved?

A: This can vary depending on several factors. My aim is to improve, maintain and save as much as I can. From older structures you can get some brilliant lower sections which can be saved, along with some added new willow, we can salvage and create something new and unique!

Sculpture
Q: How often does my beautiful willow structure/sculpture need maintaining?

A: To get the best out of your willow, I would recommend 2 prunes a year. This means the bare minimum is being cut away from the stunning structure/sculpture, allowing me to use the young, flexible, thinner branches to work my weaving magic allowing the willow to thrive!

The bare minimum maintenance I would recommend is once a year during the winter months. Check out our maintenance deals to get great discounts and ensure your willow gets booked in!
Q: Aside from the twice yearly maintenance you can provide, is there any maintenance I have to do?

A: All that will be left to do is enjoy! Any hints & tips I can give you will be given to you in the after care pack!

About Joe

Owner of Living Willow Services

Hi, Im Joe Blackburn. Im a somerset boy based in Lincolnshire. I started my willow weaving journey roughly 10 years ago, and find that my passion for it contineues to grow. I started my working life in engineering, finishing an advanced apprenticship in aeronautical engineering. After a long winding path of engineering jobs, I met my now very good friend, Jay Hadley, at a charity meeting, he introduced me to willow and carpentry and I've never looked back.

I still work very close with Jay; he is a highly skilled carpenter and supplies the bespoke added extras such as benches to finish off your beautiful living willow structures. Please share the love and take a look at his website and all the fantastic work he does!

My main focus so far has been structures such as domes, tunnels and fences. Primarily in schools, as they can be a fantastic educational tool and encourage children to learn about the outdoors, but the potential for willow is huge! Football goals, outdoor theaters, mazes, arches, seating areas or kids dens just to list a few! So please get in contact with any ideas or dreams of outdoor spaces you have and I would be honoured to create them with you.
